Movie: The Pick-up Artist

We just got a Blockbuster online subscription and one of the first movies I rented was The Pick-up Artist with Molly Ringwald and Robert Downey (not to mention a whole lot of cameo appearances by early 80's stars). For anyone interested in watching this as an instructional film, forget it. The only take away from this film is persistence. The main character, Jack, is a teacher but spends all of his free time attempting to pickup women. He violates some major rules of pickup (he pursues relentlessly, he approaches directly from behind, he uses some really corny pickup lines, and the greatest violation of supplication to gain favor with the girl by winning her $25,000 to pay off a debt), but to his credit his character never gives up and continues to hit on girls until he is blown out of the water or he succeeds.

The film ends as most movies on pickup end: the main character meets his match and turns into an AFC. This happens in about every movie I can remember involving PUAs (The Tao of Steve, Van Wilder, Just Friends), but that's what people really want to see.

I enjoyed watching it but I don't care to watch it again.
